Buccaneers Sign Ex-Bengals TE Chase Coffman

The Buccaneers have signed TE Chase Coffman, who was on Cincinnati’s practice squad last season. The news was first reported Tuesday by Howard Balzer of 101 ESPN in St. Louis. Coffman had been a third-round pick of the Bengals in 2009, but ihe had just three receptions in six games, all in 2010. He missed all of his rookie year because of aggravated bone spurs in his left ankle, which forced him onto injured reserve. The signing adds depth behind starting TE Kellen Winslow. Hey Bill Sheridan- Yeah we know what a one gap defense is.

Brand New Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan had a press conference today, and he seemed to be really impressed with the fact the Tampa Bay media all spoke english. And we know how to count too Bill.In the middle of his PC, Bill was asked whether or not the Bucs would run a 4-3 or 3-4. He first replied “Good Question” and proceeded to tell Tampa Bay media who have covered Tony Dungy, Monte Kiffin, Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks, John Lynch and more all their careers. We know what a 4-3.The best came with the next question, when Bill was asked if it would be a one gap defense, he was floored that little old Tampa Bay knew what a One Gap defense was.Bill, we only had THE PREMIER ONE GAP DEFENSIVE TACKLE in all of football, a sure first round hall of famer, Warren Sapp! Of course we cant knock Sheridan, he hasnt really had the time to get to know the area, Im sure once he starts reading the papers / blogs in the area, he will see this is an educated football…

Why you should stay on the Legarrette Blount band wagon

The NFL is a “What have you done for me lately?” league and it seems fans are no different. After a mediocre 2011 season, Buccaneers fans and prognosticators alike have all but abandoned their perception of  Blount as a long term option. With Trent Richardson a possible option with the #5 pick of the 2012 NFL Draft, there is a growing consensus he would be the smarter option over Morris Claiborne. While perception is key, it doesn’t always tell the whole story. Here’s why you need to stay on the Blount band wagon.
The Buccaneers were bad last season in every aspect of the game. When your pass attack is anemic, there isn’t much to keep defenders from charging ahead. What made things worse, Raheem Morris was more committed to getting Josh Freeman into a rhythm. While it was the more important priority at the time, Blount was the one who suffered most by being neglected and kept from getting into his own rhythm. In 7 games last season, Blount touched the b…

Tampa Bay Buccaneers add experience in the coaching ranks

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are slowly putting together their coaching staff roster and made a very good hire this weekend. Tampa Bay has announced the hiring of Earnest Byner as the team’s running back coach. Byner, 49, has been in the NFL coaching ranks since 1998. He joined the coaching ranks one year after retiring from his playing days, joining the sidelines with the Baltimore Ravens.
Byner has a successful NFL career, logging a career yardage total of 13, 442 all-purpose yards and scoring 72 touchdowns. Byner was able to collect a Super Bowl championship in his career, as a member of the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XXVI.
Byner has experience with the Tennessee Titans and the Jacksonville Jaguars as the team’s running backs coach. He is credited with helping to develop Chris Johnson in Tennessee and coach Maurice Jones-Drew for two seasons in Jacksonville.
Tampa Bay already has LeGarrette Blount on their roster, but he needs help developing his game and becoming …

Bold Predictions: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

After finishing the 2010 season barely missing the Playoffs, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers limped to a disappointing 4-12 record in 2011, finishing the season on a 10-game losing streak, which cost Head Coach Raheem Morris his job. Tampa Bay goes into 2012 with a brand new head coach and coaching staff who will attempt to turn the team around. This article looks at some bold predictions for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for 2012.

Free Agency and the Draft
Tampa Bay currently holds the fifth overall pick in the 2012 Draft, which they will use to draft running back Trent Richardson out of Alabama. Richardson finished his junior season at Alabama, with a National Title along with 1,679 rushing yards, 338 receiving yards, 21 rushing touchdowns and three receiving touchdowns.

The biggest pick-up Tampa Bay makes through free agency is wide receiver Reggie Wayne. Wayne was unable to pass the 1,000 receiving yards mark in 2011, however, part of the reason for that was he was catching passes fr…

What the 2012 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Offense will look like

There has been little concrete information about the type of offense Greg Schiano wants to run other than saying it will be a physical style of play which also takes shots down field. Once we look at the Buccaneers hires these past two weeks, things get much clearer. Lets look at the coaches on the offensive side of the ball and their specialties.
Jimmy Raye (Senior Offensive Assistant):
Raye is a product of the Don Coryell days, using a combination of power running and vertical shots down field. Sound familiar? It is exactly what Schiano wants implemented and something the Buccaneers have the talent for. To run the system correctly, an offense needs two physical wide receivers with speed and a tight end capable of getting vertical as well. Guess who was the first tight end to run the Coryell system with major success? None other than Kellen Winslow Sr. Think he might be able to show his son a thing or two? Think all those days of coaching a young Kellen Jr. weren’t based on t…

Earnest Byner new Tampa Bay Buccaneers Running Backs coach

What the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lacked in their head coach search they are making up for in terms of positional coaches. Bryan Cox, Bob Bostad and now Earnest Byner have all been added to the Buccaneers staff this week. Each of these men is a proven facilitator and are among the best minds or performers at the positions they will be coaching.
In Byner, the Buccaneers bring in a 14 year NFL veteran who amassed 8,261 rushing yards and 56 touchdowns. As with Butch Davis, Bryan Cox, and Mike Sullivan, Byner also brings a Super Bowl ring with him to add to the aura of an organization committed to winning. Earnest Byner was a key component to the Washington Redskins Super Bowl XXVI win in 1992 and is a two time Pro Bowl selectiion. During his time as running backs coach for Washington, Tennessee, and Jacksonville, he has coached Clinton Portis, Chris Johnson and Maurice Jones-Drew.
The Buccaneers now have an excellent group of coaches to guide every part of the offense. Sullivan for Josh Fr…

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Offseason Outlook

In terms of Salary Cap Space the Cap limit is 124 million.  Tampa Bay is one of 5 NFL teams with that has less than 100 million with their cap space.  This means the Buccaneers are one of five NFL teams with a boatload of salary cap room.  Tampa Bay needs to be active in free agency and the NFL draft this year.

Greg Schiano helped Rutgers win their final bowl game ending his Rutgers career on a high note.  Now you wonder what Schiano will do in Tampa Bay?

Source: Byner discussing job with Bucs

One of the most storied running backs in NFL history may be ready to coach the position for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

A source told FOXSports.com that Earnest Byner was meeting with Bucs officials Sunday about the team’s vacant running backs coaching spot.

A 14-year NFL veteran, Byner retired as the NFL’s 16th-leading all-time rusher in 1997 with 8,261 yards. Byner played for Cleveland, Baltimore and Washington, winning a Super Bowl ring with the 1991 Redskins. Byner immediately segued into NFL coaching when his playing days ended and spent the past two seasons with Jacksonville.

The Bucs also are interviewing Steve Loney on Monday for an assistant offensive line coaching position, a source told FOXSports.com. Loney spent the past four seasons as the St. Louis Rams’ offensive line coach. He had previously worked with Minnesota and Arizona.

Loney would be working under new Bucs offensive line coach Bob Bostad, whose Saturday hiring was first reported by FOXSports.com.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Hire New Defensive Coordinator

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finally have a head coach and defensive coordinator who is not the same person. Tampa Bay has hired Bill Sheridan to be the new defensive coordinator. This is a good hire, since Sheridan has experience coaching defense on the high school, college and professional levels.

Sheridan has been coaching since 1981, and from 1987 through 2004 coached as a defensive assistant at Maine, Cincinnati, Army, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Michigan. In 2005, Sheridan became a defensive assistant with the New York Giants, and was the defensive coordinator for one season in 2009.

Sheridan then went on to become a defensive assistant for the Miami Dolphins. Then this week, Tampa Bay hired Sheridan to be their defensive coordinator. Sheridan will be tasked with turning around a defense that gave up 298 in its last eight games last season.

Interestingly enough, part of the reason Sheridan was let go from New York in 2009, was because his defense gave up 142 points in the l…

Buccaneers hires Wisconsin’s Bostad as OL coach

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have named Bob Bostad as the team’s offensive line coach.
Bostad has spent the past six seasons at the University of Wisconsin, which annually features a powerful running game.
He is the latest addition to Greg Schiano’s staff. Ohio State’s Bill Sheridan was hired as the team’s defensive coordinator Friday

Warren Sapp: Randy Moss is a “front-runner”

Former NFL defensive tackle Warren Sapp made an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show and made it clear that he wouldn’t sign his former Raider teammate Randy Moss.
“I’ve already played with [Randy] Moss, and what Cris Carter said — first time Cris ever said anything I agree with, I mean it’s the first time that he actually said something with some substance,” Sapp said. “I just call Randy a front-runner.”
Sapp explained the difference between a front-runner and a quitter.
“When everything is good, it’s wonderful, it’s great,” Sapp said. “But when a little adversity hits, it’s ‘No, no, no. Don’t ask me to help us come up out of this.’”
I think Sapp makes a great point, but I wouldn’t sign Moss because of his age and the fact that I don’t believe he’ll make the type of impact that a lot people believe he still can.

2012 NFL Free Agency Rumors: Players Who Could Be Released From NFC South

This have become one of the most competitive divisions in the entire NFL.  The last two seasons both the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons have made the postseason. During that span the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2010) and Carolina Panthers (2011) have created quite the roadblock for the two perennial powers.
While Tampa Bay plummeted back down to earth last season, Carolina appears to be on the upswing in a major way with the addition of Cam Newton and emergence of some of their young nucleus.
Needless to say, the Saints and Falcons remain the class of the division. Now both of them are looking to take that next step to, or in New Orleans case “back to,” contention in the conference. Meanwhile, Carolina and Tampa Bay look to challenge for one of the two top spots in the division. This means that we are bound to see plenty of player movement in the NFC South this off-season. Today’s article is going to focus on players that could find themselves out of a job in this…

Bucs cut Albert Haynesworth

As expected under a new coaching regime, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have parted ways with DT Albert Haynesworth. This move should come as no shock to avid NFL fans, since Haynesworth was brought on to the Tampa Bay roster as a stop gap measure to fix issues on the interior of the Buccaneers defensive line.
Haynesworth joined the Buccaneers roster as injuries took their tool on defensive tackles for the club this season and with a looming $7 million salary for the 2012 season, the club decided to jettison the controversial defensive tackle. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the only team to place a waiver claim for the defensive tackle after his time with the New England Patriots was deemed to be done.
The Buccaneers have announced that they have rolled over salary cap money from last year and now appear to be $60.5 million under the league imposed salary cap for the 2012 season. General manager Mark Dominik told reporters on Tuesday that the Tampa Bay franchise will be mor…

If I Ran The Tampa Bay Buccaneers…

It is easy to run a NFL team from our armchairs, or knowing that we as fans know best what a NFL team needs to do or not do. This article examines what I would do if I were running the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Ring of Honor
If I ran the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, I would work on getting three new members added to the team’s Ring of Honor.

First would be former head coach Tony Dungy. Dungy coached the team from 1996-2001, and was a great man of character and a great head coach. Dungy is responsible for turning a team of losers into a team that would win a division title, make an appearance in the NFC Conference Championship, and three Wild Card berths. Lastly, Dungy put the groundwork in place for Tampa Bay to be able to win the Super Bowl following the 2002 season.

The second person I would want to add would be former head coach Jon Gruden. Despite all the work Dungy did, he never got the team to the Super Bowl. In his first season in 2002, Gruden was able to win the Super Bow…
