Darren Woodson: Dallas Cowboys Don’t Need a Ray Lewis-Type Leader
The Dallas Cowboys have a problem with leadership and that’s no secret among the fan base or inside the organization. From the front office to the bottom of the depth chart, there’s no one who stands out as a leader. Cowboys defensive end Jason Hatcher recently acknowledged that fact and now former Cowboys safety Darren Woodson is offering his take on the matter.

Cowboys defensive end Jason Hatcher recently acknowledged that fact and now former Cowboys safety Darren Woodson is offering his take on the matter.
“The rah-rah speech is not going to win games for you,” Woodson said. “And I don’t care who’s giving it to you – you can bring Knute Rockne back. No one is going to motivate you between the lines. It’s about preparation the week of, and it’s about the top guys in that locker room and your role players understanding their role on that football team.”
Woodson said it was “shocking to hear that” Hatcher couldn’t think of one leader on the Cowboys’ team when asked. However, Woodson’s comments about Ray Lewis were the direct opposite of what Hatcher said. The Cowboys’ defensive end mentioned L…

DeMarco Murray on track with rehab
According to Jon Machota of FOX Sports Southwest, Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray has indicated that his recovery from tearing the ligaments in his ankle is currently on track and he expects to increase his current workload next month.
“It’s coming along well,” Murray told NFL Radio on Sirius/XM on Friday per FSN Southwest. “I just started running last week and we have a great rehabilitation staff at the Cowboys’ facility, so I’m doing good.”
Murray stated that he’s not worried about being labeled as injury prone even though he had quite a few injuries when he played college football at Oklahoma.
“I can’t control whether or not I get injured,” Murray said. “That’s all a part of God’s plan, not that he doesn’t have a great plan for me. There’s not a day I go out there and think about getting hurt or think about injuries because that’s when they tend to happen. I’m ju…
Dallas Cowboys: 5 Most Underrated Players Heading Into 2012 NFL Season
Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE
After a season like the Dallas Cowboys had in 2011, silver linings are hard to find, but that’s what this time of year is for. Several Cowboys leaped into the spotlight this past season and made Dallas excited about what they will bring to the team in 2012.
While two of these players are currently free agents, the Cowboys have every intention of re-singing both of them and both players have publicly stated they’d like to stay in Dallas. Regardless, these players are underrated no matter which team they play for in 2012.
Here are five Dallas Cowboys who are underrated heading into the 2012 NFL season and will make a huge impact for the team this year:
Cowboys DE questions team leadership
Dallas Cowboys defensive end Jason Hatcher made a highly publicized statement on Friday, saying he was unsure of who the leaders were on his team.
Hatcher, who admitted the Cowboys have plenty of talent, added that the team needs a vocal leader that is similar to Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis.
But all of his teammates don’t agree. Asked about Hatcher’s comments on Saturday at a Supercross event at Cowboys Stadium, outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware, a six-time Pro Bowl selection and the face of the Cowboys defense, said the team leadership is just fine.
“The thing is on our team, there’s not a guy who is just a straight up, solitary leader,” Ware told The Dallas Morning News. “I think it comes as a whole. You got to look at it as we have Tony Romo, we have Jason Witten, you have me, Bradie James, Sean Lee. Everybody has their role and they take on that leadership role when it’s needed.
“Every team doesn’t need just a one-time guy who is like the leader of that team. If everybody is checking everybody, that’s all you need. There comes a time to step up when it’s time to step up and get the job done.”
During a radio interview on The Ben and Skin Show KESN-FM, Hatcher was asked who the Cowboys team leaders were. Hatcher responded with a pause.
“Dude, I got to be honest with you, that’s a good question,” Hatcher said. “I really don’t know, man.”
He added: “That’s another thing I think we really need. We need like a Ray Lewis. We don’t have that. We got talent and everything we need, but if we get like a Ray Lewis, everybody could buy into him. When Ray Lewis speaks everybody listens to him, a guy like that. You really don’t got that. I think we definitely need somebody like that.”
Hatcher, who just completed his sixth NFL season after being selected by the Cowboys in the third round of the 2006 draft, didn’t try to downgrade the importance of having that leadership. He said the Cowboys need someone that will hold everyone accountable.
“With a leader like that, everybody is held accountable, guys aren’t doing their own thing here or there,” he said. “Everybody is going in one direction. Once you have that, you’ll be good. We’re still looking for it.”
Tony Romo Is Our Quarterback…But We Need A Leader
Let’s “jump-in” shall we (head first) let’s talk about CHANGE, one of the definitions of Change is…. “to transform or convert” what do think the Cowboys need to “Change”? What I know we don’t need is a change at Quarterback, Tony Romo is going into his 6th year as the Cowboys Starter, he is heading into the PRIME of his NFL career. After signing as a undrafted free agent out of Eastern Illinois in 2003, #9 will be heading into his 9 year in the NFL, Tony Romo has a career passer rating of 96.9 making him second best of all time. A lot of Cowboy fans need to understand Tony Romo makes a very “Average” Team (I use that term very loosely) a “Contending” team. Can you honestly say the Cowboys would be better off with someone else running the team since 2006? Check these stats:
Pass attempts 2,592 Pass completions 1,672 Percentage 64.5 TD-INT 149-72 Passing yards 20,834
Are you kidding me? These are CAREER stats for many q…

The three quotes today are from Tom Landry.
Here is the third installment of quote trivia. Today’s quotes focus on personnel decisions made during Tom Landry’s tenure has head coach.
Check out the poll question as well.
The Quote: ”Our approach will be one in which we’ll be more quicker to change people…more. There won’t be a situation as in the past where if a guy is just a nose ahead of the other, he’ll play all the time. This year is going to be very competitive.”
The Question: Before which season did Tom Landry make this comment?1964197519831986The Quote:”We will have to look at trades. We have been drafting so high for so many years that it’s hard to get the strength in backup players. That was our notable deficit last year.”
The Question: Before which season did Tom Landry make this statement?1969197919831986The Quote: “It’s already clear that our offense did not do the job. Our offense even made our defense look worse than it was by not controlling the ball, by keeping our defense under pressure.”
The Question: Before which season did Landry make this comment?1964197519841987
And the poll:
Jerry Jones bids $1 million for Muhammad Ali’s boxing gloves
Muhammad Ali’s 70th birthday celebration drew heavy hitters from several industries– not just professional sports– to Las Vegas this past weekend.
One of these heavy hitters was omnipresent Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who went toe-to-toe with Lorenzo Ferttita, co-owner of the UFC, in a bidding war for a pair of Ali’s boxing gloves. As initial bidding wound down, Fertitta was named the winner of the gloves– worn by Ali during a 1965 fight with Floyd Patterson– with a $750 thousand dollar bid.
On the side, however, Jerry Jones had placed a bid of $1 million into the competition which kept things alive. This bid makes plenty of since for Jones, given his efforts to bring more high-profile boxing events to Cowboys Stadium (not so affectionately known in some circles as “Jerry World”) have escalated in recent months.
Upon Jones’ $1 million bid, Fertitta placed the winning bid of $1.1 million to take home the pair of gloves once worn by Ali.
This bidding war by …
Murray: Injured ankle is ‘coming along well’
Rehabilitation seems to be going well for Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray. The team’s leading rusher tore ligaments in his right ankle during a Week 14 loss to the New York Giants, cutting his rookie season short and forcing him to have surgery.
But according to a Friday radio interview, Murray has been running and is on track to increase his workload in the next month.
“It’s coming along well,” Murray told NFL Radio on SiriusXM. “I just started running last week and we have a great rehabilitation staff at the Cowboys’ facility, so I’m doing good.”
During his four years at Oklahoma, Murray missed several games while he battled through knee and hamstring injuries. But the third-round pick isn’t worried about getting labeled injury prone.
He says that’s something that’s out of his hands.
“I can’t control whether or not I get injured or not,” Murray said. “That’s all a part of God’s plan, not that he doesn’t have a great plan for me. There’s not a day I go out there and think about getting hurt or think about injuries because that’s when they tend to happen. I’m just going out there working hard. I’m fortunate it was a minor injury. It’s not going to keep me from missing anything. So we’ll see what happens.”
Despite only getting significant playing time in eight games last season Murray finished with 897 rushing yards and two scores.

DeMarcus Ware disagrees with Jason Hatcher, says Cowboys have leaders
The NFL regular season ended less than two months ago, but the most telling sign of the Cowboys’ offseason may have already come. Last week, defensive end Jason Hatcher spoke about how he wished Dallas had a true leader in their locker room. He said the Cowboys lack a player like Ray Lewis who everyone in the locker room listens to, which is obviously a problem for the team. DeMarcus Ware disagrees with Hatcher.
“The thing is on our team, there’s not a guy who is just a straight up, solitary leader,” Ware said according to the Dallas Morning News. “I think it comes as a whole. You got to look at it as we have (Tony) Romo, we have (Jason) Witten, you have me, Bradie James, Sean Lee. Everybody has their role and they take on that leadership role when it’s needed. Every team doesn’t need just a one-time guy who is like the leader of that team. If everybody is checking everybody, that’s all you need. There comes a time to step up when it’s time to step up and get the job done.”
Ware was one of the names that came to mind when I read Hatcher’s comments. The fact that a player on defense didn’t consider him to be a leader surprised me a bit. The guys DeMarcus mentioned may have leadership qualities, but Hatcher’s comments make it pretty obvious that the team lacks a true leader.
If a team has a leader, everybody knows about it. It’s not something that needs to be explained. If Hatcher says the team has no leaders, than the Cowboys have no leader who is vocal enough to make an impression. That’s a clear sign that someone needs to step up and fulfill that role in 2012.
Dallas Cowboys Shouldn’t Use Franchise Tag on Anthony Spencer
The Dallas Cowboys have some important decisions to make regarding free agency with new and current players. Dallas needs to improve its secondary and offensive and defensive lines via free agency and/or the 2012 NFL Draft. The Cowboys also have several players who will be free to join other teams beginning on March 13, so Dallas must decide whether to try and keep those players or let them walk. The team is currently debating on whether to use the franchise tag on outside linebacker Anthony Spencer.
Vote For The LSS Cowboys Rookie Of The Year
The Dallas Cowboys 2011 Rookie class was one of the best in recent years. The Cowboys drafted a lot of talent, but even the walk-on players were a pleasant surprise. I have learned so much over the years writing our “New to the Silver and Blue” columns. Let’s have some fun… We are going to have a contest for LoneStarStuck.com readers to help us elect the winner of our 1st Annual LSS ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD.
There were 15 rookies on the team this season, but only a few of them took advantage of their opportunities and ran with it. When those rookies were called on, it gave the starters some pause to look over their shoulders and sweat a little.
We want to know who you think deserves the honor of “ LSS Rookie Of The Year” !

Former Cowboy still heckled in Philly
On Friday former Dallas Cowboys fullback Darryl “Mosse” Johnston spoke with KTCK-AM 1310 in Dallas via the Dallas Morning News. He was asked if people call him by the his nickname, “Moose” when he travels around the country to do various games on television with FOX.
“They flip me the bird in Philly,” replied Johnston. “It’s good. There are Cowboys fans everywhere. People recognize me as Moose. I think that’ll always be a part of who I am. It’s fun. We have Cowboy fans in Washington, New York, Philadephia, all over the country. When you talk about America’s Team, I think the moniker for the Dallas Cowboys really fits because we have a fan base that extends to every city.”
It’s really not a surprise at all that fans in the city of Philadelphia would flip the middle finger to a former or current opposing player.
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a city that lacks as much class as Philadelphia. I have to say though, at least they’re consistent.
